If you want to rent a bike, you can go to Comfortech Bicycle Rental across from the ferry docks. They have a variety of styles of bikes, including mountain bikes and e-bikes, that can be rented either for a day or a week.
PELEE ISLAND ART WORKS is an art collective that sells unique gifts and one-of-a kind souvenirs. The pottery, paintings, jams, sea glass crafts, handmade jewellery, and knitted slippers, are all created by local artists and artisans. There are many items to choose from, and be sure to pet the two resident cats.
PELEE ISLAND WINERY PAVILION is the oldest estate winery in Canada, The Wine Pavilion operates from mid-May until mid-October, offering tastings, tours, and live weekend entertainment in the wine garden.
Conorlee’s Bakery and Pizzeria sells a variety of pastries, pizza, sandwiches, and specialty coffees. There are gluten-free options. Everything is made fresh throughout the day. The butter tarts are a local specialty!
Sandy beaches, sailboat watching, and spectacular sunsets can be found at SCUDDER MARINA. Located in the North Bay of Pelee Island, there are docks, restrooms, picnic tables, and an open air gazebo. This is where you can typically see white pelicans.
The Southern most inhabited location in Canada is at LIGHTHOUSE POINT, where you will find the restored 1833 lighthouse that guided sailors though the Pelee passage. If you want to walk to the lighthouse, bring bug spay and boots.
EXPLORE PELEE offers island passenger van tours, biking tours, and hiking tours. The tour guide will share stories of island living and provide you with some of the history.
FISH POINT NATURE RESERVE is one of the nature reserves on the Island that provides habitat for unique and endangered species, such as the Prickly Pear Cactus, Black Crowned Night Heron, Blue Racer Snake, and the Eastern spiny-shelled turtle. Due to the Southern location of Pelee Island, migratory birds and butterflies migrate through in the spring and fall.
PELEE ISLAND HERITAGE CENTRE collects and preserves the unique history of the island. Learn about the arrival of the Europeans, the battle of Pelee Island, commercial fishing, the wine industry, Prohibition, shipwrecks, and local lighthouses.
GETTING TO PELEE ISLAND
Ferry costs and booking times are at your own discretion. The ferry leaves from Leamington or Kingsville, Ontario, and from Sandusky, Ohio. If you want to bring your own car, then you must book well in advance. Walk on passangers can buy their ferry tickets right before boarding. Charter planes can be booked through the Griffing Flying Service, which fly throughout the day, from Port Clinton, Ohio. The Windsor Flying Club has planes that fly to the island in the mornings, Monday-Friday, and leave from the Windsor Airport Terminal. Someone will be waiting for you at the Pelee Island docks or the airport to transport you to the Book House. If you brought your own car, then you can follow us there.
